AUTUMN
LEAVES - Martin Storey
|
|
| Rowan
Knitting Magazine No. 40 (ZM40)
features
handknitting and crochet designs from Kaffe Fassett, Martin
Storey, Marie Wallin, Sarah Dallas, Antoni & Alison, Sarah
Hatton, Amanda Crawford, Carol Meldrum, Leah Sutton, Lisa
Richardson, Jennie Atkinson, Lois Daykin, Gabrielle Carter,
Bronwen Harlow, Nikki Ryan, Julia Neill and Nina Chakkour.
The new Autumn/Winter season is inspired by the eclectic mix
of simplicity, adornment, nature and fantasy. Fade to Grey,
Kindred Spirit and Legend show garments which are both beautiful
and very wearable. Each of the stories is simply styled in
a way to inspire the knitter and this season sees the introduction
of two new yarns within the magazine: `Tapestry'
is a lovely wool and soya bean mix and will be available in
eight beautiful, rich, blended space dyed shades.

available from size 8 to 22, with the remainder being available
from size 8 to 18 or from size Small to XL. Menswear is available
from size Small to XXL.

| Story
1 - Fade
to Grey is inspired by the delicate use of black
and grey tones. Emphasis is on the subtle use of colour and
yarn to create a soft, luxurious feel. Photographed in the
stark surroundings of Dungeness in Kent by Chris Bracewell
and elegantly styled by Louise Sykes.

Story
2 - Kindred Spirit is inspired by the
colour and texture of the countryside in the autumn. The combination
of rural tones and folk design creates a story with a magical,
handcrafted feel. Beautifully photographed by Gisela Torres
at Birtsmorten Court in Worcestershire and simply styled by
Emma Freemantle.

Story
3 - Legend is a wonderful and theatrical
story with lots of adornment. Glamorous colours featuring rich
purples, violets, amethyst and graceful pinks combine with patterning
inspired from old tapestries, antique books and fairy tales.
Dramatically photographed by Gisella Torres at Birtsmorten Court
in Worcestershire and beautifully styled by Emma Freemantle.

Other features include:
Design Diary:
A feature showing the progression of a design from conception
to photo shoot. Shown as a calendar of events we track the
evolution of a design from initial yarn development, trend
information, design formulation and colour selection through
to first sample and then to photography. Written by Juliet
Bernard and with still life photography by Gisella Torres.
How to wear:
Here we take six designs from the stories within the magazine
and style them on real people from three different age groups
- 20's, 40's and 60's. This will show women how they can wear
our garments irrespective of what age they happen to be. Written
by Kathryn Samuel, photographed by Gisella Torres and styled
by Emma Freemantle.
The
New Generation:
This feature introduces the five students who were commissioned
to design all the accessories shown in the magazine. Each
student outlines their career history to date and is photographed
with each of their designs. Written by Juliet Bernard and
photographed by Gisella Torres.

Our
staff have had many years experience of working with Rowan
yarns. Rowan designs never date but sometimes the colours
and qualities that were once the original designs, have to
be substituted; we can advise on the nearest shades.
We stock
the entire Rowan handknitting range. Please see our
