                  •
Knitwear sits centre stage of the fashion world creating the
drama for the season ahead, with many of the catwalk designers
having drawn inspiration for their collections from historic
                  references such as the Baroque.

                  • We seek comfort in our home life and the importance
of homemade commodities. Fashion is looking to the handicraft
textiles of Eastern Europe and the nomadic lifestyle.

                  • Rustic and sober, is a strong movement in design, with
brocades, rich embroideries and the use of shimmering metallic
                  yarns coming through.

                    • Yarn for winter 2013/2014 explores many textures and
surfaces - a season where the plain and elaborate co-exist.

                ROMANCING
                  •
…..is inspired by the dark beauty found in haunting and
mysterious landscapes. The collection is dark but romantic and
sometimes sinister with a touch of gothic.
                  • The Late Baroque and Rococo periods of the 18th century
are the inspiration for the patterning within the collection.
The silhouette of that period – the hourglass shapes,
corsets and puff sleeves merge into modern new shapes with the
                  focus on the waist.
                  • Decorative and opulent, ROMANCING is a sumptuous collection,
inspiring a new twist of feminine dressing with vintage Edwardian
and Victorian influences. Floral patterns inspire elements of
the collection with tapestry type panels adorning unexpected
garment parts. Embroidery and metallic touches add extra dimension
to this rich and decorative theme.
                  • The colour palette is rich and warm jewel, tones mixed
with darks that are almost black, but have a hint of colour.
Ancient metallic, champagne and mother of pearl are the key
highlights with dusty duck egg blues, lilac greys and mid greys
                  adding the soft, vintage undertones.
                    • Knits include filigree lace, crochet and figured surfaces
with brocade motifs and tapestry inspired panels. Cabling,
sculpted pieces with peplums and exaggerated shaping. High
necklines, decorative deep collars, formal collars and historical
sleeve shapes are the key details.

                FOLK
                  •
is inspired by traditional folk patterns found in Slavic and
Eastern European countries. A patchwork of reclaimed layering
pieces, pay homage to richly patterned kilims and rugs to create
a rich tapestry, colour and texture with a nomadic spirit.
                  • Kilims and rugs provide the key pattern direction for
this colourful, rustic outdoor collection for both women and
men. Traditional use of kilim pattern used in fairisle is important
as well as over-scaled kilim placement motifs. Cocooning, comforting
and warm chunky plain textures, two colour cabling and decorative
weave or reverse stitches balance the patterned looks.
                  • Garment shape is mainly influenced by the nomadic lifestyle.
This layering collection includes wrap over cardigans, deep
shawl wraps and duffle type jackets as well as oversized casual
sweaters. The pioneer look is completed by belting the outfit
for function and protection. Wraps worn around the head, deep
roll necks, scarf crews, capes and ponchos, waist drawstrings,
fringing and tasselling are the key details.
                    • The gentle crafted colour palette is inspired by the
rich tapestry mid tones found in kilims and carpets with the
warm autumnal shades of teal, ochre, rust and earth tones
contrasting with dark loden greens and stone neutrals.

                  • Winter 2013 - 2014 sees the ESSENTIALS story of the
magazine as the showcase for the key shapes of the season but
translated into more simplified, easy to wear styles that will
                  compliment the seasons essential looks.
                  • The key trends for the autumn and winter season are
for the cape and mini cape, skinny rib knit, peplum top, boxy
retro cardigan, cascade drape cardigan, chunky cardigan coat,

abstract knit, dense textured knit and the classic polo neck.
These trends are worked into a winter pastel palette.
                    • Predominately a plain knitted and solid colour collection,
WINTER ESSENTIALS also combines the key fabric trends of jacquard,
intarsia, abstract textures, woven stitch effects, engineered
ribs, 3D surfaces, graphic cables, openwork stitches, soft
                    and brushed looks. |

                      Our
staff have had many years experience of working with Rowan
yarns. Rowan designs never date but sometimes the colours
and qualities that were once the original designs, have
to be substituted; we can advise on the nearest shades.
                      We
stock the entire Rowan handknitting range. Please see
                        our Rowan
                        stock list.
