Number 5 (October 2001)
Dear English Yarns
newsletter members!
Hello, I'm Bridget.
Welcome to the English Yarns newsletter, number 5.
I have worked part time at Shoreham Knitting and Needlecraft (English
Yarns) for the past 10 1/2 years. I enjoy combining my love of needlework
with meeting our customers and assisting them as they choose their projects.
I dabble with most needlecrafts but knitting has always been my favourite
one.
For the past 10 years I have used Rowan Yarns for most of the garments
that I have made for myself, my family, and customers. I always look forward
to looking through the latest Rowan magazines and choosing the next garment
to make. At the moment I am working on two, a cardigan for myself (Beth
from A Season's Tale) and a sweater
for my daughter Rosie (Glint from Magazine
No. 30) both garments are using new yarns, the first one Rowanspun
4 ply and the other Kidsilk
Haze. The Rowanspun 4 ply is similar to the now discontinued Donegal
Lambswool Tweed. This new 4 ply is slightly finer and has some lovely
shades with subtle flecks in it.
I have also knitted
with Rowan's new Big
Wool. If you haven't tried it yet, do so, it is marvellous. One customer
recently emailed us and said "thanks for the parcel which arrived today
- I have already knitted the back of my sweater, this is my kind of knitting"!
I am longing to see
Rowan's new Biggy
Prints (similar to Big Wool but instead of one colour, several toning
shades). It is knitted on 20 mm needles so will knit up even faster than
Big Wool. Check out the shades which are already on our web site. The
yarn is available from the end of October but you can buy the book called
Big Easy, now. Price 3.45. The book
features designs knitted in both Big Wool and Biggy Prints.
As autumn (or fall
as our USA customers call it) sets in the days are becoming chilly and
shorter. I can't knit fast enough.
Lastly, to all our
USA customers you are in our thoughts at this time. We are shocked and
sickened by what happened in New York on 11th September.
Best wishes,
Bridget
